Dear colleagues,

As you may be aware, starting November 10, an electronic verification process will take place for all passengers flying to Canada. This means that citizens who do not require a visa to come to Canada will need to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) prior to boarding their flight to Canada, while Canadian citizens, including dual national Canadians, must make sure that they travel with a valid Canadian passport.

In light of these changes, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is re-engaging with stakeholders and industry partners in order to spread the word to the affected public. IRCC, as well as Global Affairs Canada and Canadian missions abroad, are conducting a major information blitz to advise travellers of the importance of obtaining the appropriate travel documents before booking a flight to Canada.

The goal during this communication campaign (September 25-November 9) is to reach as many affected travellers as possible to encourage eTA-required travellers to obtain an eTA, and to remind Canadian citizens, including dual national Canadians, to obtain a valid Canadian passport before booking a flight to Canada.

The following one-page document provides an in-depth summary of the changes detailed above and may be circulated widely. It and other products have been shared with the air industry. We would be most appreciative if you could share this information with your colleagues and clients, as well as spread the word at any pertinent future meetings or events. As well, you will find a full suite of marketing products for your use available through the following webpage, which includes:

  • A printable eTA factsheet in 14 languages
  • A factsheet for Dual National Canadian Citizens
  • An eTA poster and hand out

Thank you,
