Cultural and Diversity Training Workshop (1/2 day)

Culture & Diversity is readily apparent throughout New Brunswick's workforce, general population and guests visiting from around the world!

Culture is the distinctive life-way of a people united by a common language and governed by rules and models for their beliefs and behavior and Diversity involves all of the things that make us different from one another and includes a wide range of characteristics such as: race, language, culture, gender, sexual orientation, age, differing physical ability, ethnicity, religion, marital status, parental status, appearance, class, socioeconomic status, educational background, union membership, management status and job experience. Learning how to value diversity and respect cultural differences helps create a healthy, united, environment for everyone!

This interactive training session is for owners, managers, supervisors, team leaders and front-line staff. This training will benefit everyone in the workplace! Team members learn how to appreciate and manage diversity and culture in the workplace and how to effectively value differences, and sensitively respond to various needs and situations. Team members will learn how use diversity and culture to help create relationships and processes that make work a much more efficient and fun environment to be in!

Participants will learn:

  1. About the different cultures of New Brunswick, Canada, North America and the World
  2. About the 5 major religions of the world and a little bit about each one.
  3. How to understand diversity and culture in the workplace and the impact of stereotypes, prejudice, biases, discrimination, harassment, racism
  4. How to discuss and value differences in the workplace in order to prevent discrimination and harassment
  5. How to create a healthy workplace by valuing diversity, respecting differences, developing cross-cultural communication skills and cultural sensitivity

Anticipated Outcomes (measurable outcomes and how they will be measured):

  • diversity and cultural appreciation and representation
  • work environments free of discrimination and harassment
  • high levels of staff morale

  • satisfied staff, management, customer/guest and client
